So what's the difference??

So ever since I have moved here (over a year ago) I have mentally noted the differences between Midland, TX and Bakersfield, CA (because I am crazy like that) and have wanted to share them with the people of the world. Brace yourself!

The stop lights are horizontal instead of vertical and you can turn left whenever traffic is clear on a green light. You don't need a green arrow, although they have those too.

You're not cool if you don't have a big metal star on the outside of your house. I have chosen to never be that cool!

The curbs are curved instead of a square edge.

I've never seen so many white F-150s on the road and trucks with a rear windshield guards.

People love to write on their friend's cars with that window chalk. Especially the high school kids. I've even had it done to me on my birthday.

We're on central time so our shows come on earlier. Which is kinda nice since I don't have to stay up as late, but not so nice when the show starts at 7 instead of 8. I'm just not ready to focus at that time.

Texans are not afraid of color! Every house we looked at prior to moving here had color on the walls. And the kids had their name painted on their bedroom wall. We even looked at a house with zebra print carpet. That was awsome!

We live in a bubble here. You have drive 5 hours to get anywhere worth going (i.e Dallas, San Antonio, Houston). I miss going to the beach, the mountains.....anywhere! for a day trip.

High school football is a big deal here, but that's a given.

We have a "loop" that goes around the town. And I have a hard time not calling it a freeway.

I am not used to SO many businesses being closed, opening late or closing early on Sunday.

We have alleys on every street and that's where the dumpsters are for your trash. No individual trash can for each house. But its nice because you never have to remember to take it out to the curb.

A lot of garages are in the alley too. My neighborhood seems to be an exception.

Ok that's all I can remember right now. I'll come back and add pics so those of you in CA can see what I am talking about.

YAY You did it! Looking forward to the pics and MORE posting!!! :) Those differences are crazy! What's up with the "loop" that's not a freeway>? And I'm still REALLY sad that you didn't get the house with the zebra print carpet:(

Don't forget that you have to go to a liquor store to buy liquor and they close at 9:00 pm and aren't open on Sunday.

You can't buy beer or wine at the grocery store until after 12:00pm on Sundays.
